Chinese hackers were responsible for the attack on the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) computer system in Delhi, a top government source claimed on Wednesday, adding that the data on the five servers have now been completely recovered.
"According to the FIR, which also contains further details, Chinese nationals attacked the server at AIIMS Delhi. Hackers had managed to breach a total of five physical servers out of 100 (40 physical and 60 virtual). It is currently controlled, so the damage could have been much worse. The five servers' five sets of data have all been fully retrieved "According to a source in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
The first server outage was revealed by AIIMS Delhi on November 23. Two of the analysts tasked with keeping an eye on the servers' security have also been suspended due to the alleged cyber security breach. According to a statement released by AIIMS authorities, the e-Hospital data has been restored. "The servers have been updated with the e-Hospital data. The network has to be cleaned before the services can be restarted. The process is taking a while because of the amount of data and the multiple servers and computers needed for medical services. According to the statement, "all hospital services, including outpatient, inpatient, laboratories, etc., continue to run in manual mode." A separate division of the Delhi Police began looking into the attack on the AIIMS Delhi computer systems earlier this month. Official sources claim that a team from the Central Forensic Lab (CFSL) has been sent in to examine the AIIMS Delhi server that has been attacked in order to determine where the malware attack originated.
